Project description
Physical Object (2019)
Team: Fernanda Villalobos, Ashleigh Salazar
This interactive scene is a moving picture. Artwork is beautiful on its own, but it doesn't have an interactive system. When you go to a museum and observe the paintings, you are engaging with the artwork, but the artwork doesn't respond. We were inspired by art and shadow boxes, so we decided to create an object that looked like a moving painting. Sound, lights, and movement can be observed at the same time, 3 different people can gather together and they can each touch a sensor.
Brainstorming
The sketch below was one of the first design sketches. Our initial idea was to have objects that were placed on sensors, and the user would pick them up. We then later decided to incorporate capacitive touch sensors using copper tape and wire. We still wanted 4 shapes, but now the interaction would be a little different.

Circuits
This interactive scene has three different circuits: audio, lights, and a motor. Below are the schematics for each circuit and links to the code.

Design

Our scene was designed in Adobe Photoshop and the enclosure as well as the shapes used for the capacitive touch sensors were modeled in Rhinoceros 3D.
